REVIVING PREGNANT CORONIS

Repentant Apollo gathering healing herbs to revive pregnant Coronis, whom he shot dead for marital infidelity. Apollo failed to resuscitate Coronis but was able to save the unborn who became Aesculapius. Coronis was cremated (note the funeral pyre in the background). The leafless branches over Coronis evoke her death.
