Medical educators could use this image to illusrate properties of a fetal skull or cranium showing open sutures. Also well illustrated is the junction of the sutures in the area of the "soft spot" or "fountain" or fontanelle. Note the lack of teeth, the relatively large orbits, and small rib cage or thorax. Also note the straight cranial suture from the fontanelle that ends in the middle of the forehead or glabella. The forehead and its surface are also called metopic.
