ICON IN "NAIVE" STYLE FROM VOLYN REGION OF UKRAINE
"The Mother of God" (see related A | B | C), XVIII century Museum of Volyn Icon, Lutsk, Volyn, Ukraine
This is the fourth "naive" style icon from the Volyn region of Ukraine that are remarkably similar. In each Saint Mary gazes at the viewer and conveys the notion that she is very alert the infant Jesus is likewise quiet alert. The mother and son, in distinction to most other icons do not convey an impression of sadness.
