"Vittoria Caldoni aus Albano" (see related A | B | C), 1821 Johann Friedrich Overbeck (1789 - 1869) Neue Pinakothek, Munich, Bavaria, Germany

Vittoria Caldoni was depicted as the ideal of feminine Italian beauty - she posed for many artists, including Horace Vernet, Friedrich Overbeck, Franz L. Catel, Heinrich Maria von Hess, Juious Schnorr von Carosfeld, Bertel Thorvaldsen, Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Johann Gottfried Shadow, among others. In 1839, she married Gregory Lapchenko, a Russian* painter. She was also known as "the beauty of Albano".

Some expert categorize this painter as belonging to the Nazarene group - a term denoting artists who emphasized themes linked with Christianity and Roman Catholic values.

N.B. a. A similar painting to the present was made by Schnorr von Carolsfeld.
*N.B. b. (Ed.) Russian chauvinism is pervasive - when convenient for pro-Russian propaganda, Ukrainians, Armenians, even Stalin, etc. are cast as "Russian" but not in terms of equal rights and opportunities - Vittoria Caldoni married Gregory Lapchenko mentioned above. He was a member of a distinguished Ukrainian Cossack family (in that era even the Ukrainian language was forbidden). In fact, one of the technical  coordinators of this website is named Lapchenko and resides in a core area of Ukrainian culture.
