"Head of an Amazon - Greek marble copy after an original bronze from Ephesus" (see related A), 440 BC Capitoline Museum, Rome, , Italy

found in 1874 near the auditorium in Ephesus. It represents an original created for the artistic contest of 440-443 BC - the Amazons were patrons of Ephesus. The ideas inherent in  "Amazon" and in the "Ephesian Artemis" deserve attention.
