"Genes are Survival Machines"
"Organisms are huge gene colonies ... forming bodies, minds ...  ideas ...
separate eternities ... selfish or altruistic ...
mortal and immortal ... "

W. Wertelecki, M.D.

N.B. Such themes evoke the ideas found in the 1976 and 1989 editions of  "The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins.Much before him, there was "the Anarchist Prince", Peter Alexeyevich Kropotkin (1842-1921) whom Oscar Wilde described as "a man with a soul of that beautiful white Christ ...". As a zoologist, Kropotkin conveyed his views in his once famous book "Mutual Aid: A factor of Evolution". This book merits renewed attention because it has correctly challenged the ideas inherent in the "survival of the fittest" - Kropotkin sustains that "mutual aid" is a more favorable factor that promotes survival.
