P.S. Kurt Benirschke, M.D. - German-born American physician, pathologist and geneticist, expert in placenta,  twins, and mammalian reproduction cites the above when speaking of his creation - "The Frozen Zoo". In 1970, Benirschke began a collection of frozen cells and reproductive material from highly endagered species - there was no technology available then - he did it "because all fo us did not understand yet" this would become a priceless resource today. Benirschke persuaded the Board of Trustees of the San Diego Zoo to create the now famous "Center for the Reproduction of Endangered Species".
