PATERNAL CARE BY NATCHEZ NATIVES
"The Natchez" (see related A | B | C), 1835 Eugene Delacroix (1798-1863) Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, New York, USA
This scene intends to show a couple of brand new parents escaping the massacre of Natchez natives by French colonists. Numerous other massacres of Amerindians taint the history of Christian colonizers.
Natality - native - national - nation are complex notions less clearly described in non-Latin derived languages. For example, in Ukrainian rid, rody, narod stand for birth and population, but nation is borrowed from Latin as natsia.
