AURORA (DAWN SUNRISE) AND CEPHALUS

Aurora, or Eos, was the Goddess of the dawn. Cephalus was the son of King Deioneus of Thessaly. Aurora fell in love with Cephalus. One of her gifts to Cephalus was a magic spear (pike). Neither knew the destiny that Cephalus by accident would kill his wife Procris, whom he loved deeply. Eventually, Aurora spirited him to Olympus, but he rejected her ... and the tragedy continues ...

Cephalus (note relationship to the notion "cephalic") was the head of a big clan.

Images of Cephalus should not be confused with Endymion.

"Put to sleep" in vernacular English often denotes "to kill".

Deep sleep lead to the Latin saying "Endimionis somnum dormire" - "To sleep as deeply as Endymion". Fortunately, Aurora ensured that Endymion did not age while asleep. The question is, do we age more or less, or the same, as we are asleep?
