FLAYING (SKINNING) OF MARSYAS BY ORDER OF JEALOUS HUMILIATED APOLLO
(details from "Apollo and Marsyas"), 1540 Michelangelo Anselmi (1491-1554) National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., USA
Skinning, scalping, flaying, implying removal of skin is not pretty, nice, kind, and often is/was a cruel form of torture, revenge, punishment, killing, and murder.
