AT THE MOULIN ROUGE

"At the Moulin Rouge" (see details), 1895 Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) Art Institute, Chicago, USA, Illinois

Scene at the Moulin Rouge Cabaret in Paris.

NOTE: Imbibing absinth or absinthe was very popular. Toulouse-Lautrec is to the left of his friend Emile Dujardin (once a well known writer). To his right is a robust woman with blond hair known as "La Goulue", a celebrated quadrille dancer; across sits the photographer Paul Cescau (a medium already popular then); standing is Dr. Tarpie de Celeyran, a physician, good friend and a cousin of Lautrec. The singer is May Milton.
