"The duchess of Montesquiou-Frezensac" (see details) (see related A | B), 1910 Oscar Kokoschka (1886-1960) Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Victoria Massena d'Essling (1888-1919), married Joseph de Montesquiou-Frezensac in 1907 and perished from consumption or tuberculosis in a Swiss sanatorium (sanitorium) for respiratory disorders. Her husband was also affected. 

Kokoschka, a leading impressionist was able to reveal his subjects psyche and soul. He did so by encouraging his subjects to freely move around as he painted directly without preliminary sketches.
