"Cephalus Grieving over the Dying Procris", 1610 Abraham Janssens (1575-1632) Ringling Art Museum, Sarasota, Florida, USA

From an episode in Ovid's "Metamorphoses". The death of Procris is attributed to the jealousy of Cephalus. Note: Deadly hunting. Note that Janssens competed with his Flemish compatriot Reubens in the production of large scale paintings using ideas from classic mythology. See another example "Jupiter rebuked by Venus".
