"Neptune and Amphitrite on a Quadriga ( Roman Mosaic )" Louvre Museum, Paris, France

A Nereid or Oceanid and sea goddess (daugther of Oceamus and Tethus), spouse of Poseidon and mother of Triotn and Rhodos or Rhode. Amphitrite ruled over sea creatures (equivalent to a female Poseidon). She resisted marrying Poseidon but was convinced by Delphinus, for which grateful Poseidon placed him among the stars. Above Poseidon - Amphitrite are shown as a happy couple blessed by love represented by Cupids. The same idea is reflected in the icon of a mosaic from Herculaneum near Naples.
