This warrior called Galatian by the Greeks (characteristic long curly hair) is a representation of the victory of king Attale of Pergamon (241-197 A.D.) against invasion by the "Gaulois" or Gauls. Similar representations stand in the acropolis of Athens along with others representing the defeat of the Amazons by the Athenians.
