"Skin spots" are common not only in humans. Freckles, ephelides, lentigines are not synonymous. In any case, "skin spots" are biologic signs even when we do not understand if they are signals. Suffice to say here that "freckles" are unlikely in infants (those spots triggered by sunlight). On the other hand, lentigines may be seen in infants and signal the presence of disorders of significance, neurofibromatosis type 1 among other neuro-cutaneous disorders.
