ALHAMBRA

Reflexions

The Calat Alhambra (red fortress) arose in the mid 1300"s to serve as a fortress and palace to Moorish rulers of Granada in Al-Andalus, now Andalusia, Spain. The layout of the complex may seem disorganized but its beauty is such that it can be considered to be a unique treasure of mankind. The complex also reflects the high estethetic values and culture of the Nasrid emirate of Granada. Erected by Muhammed V, Sultan of Granada (1353-1391) and the Alhambra is his monument to posterity. The site fell to the Christian armies in 1492. In 1527, Carlos I or Charles V, erected a very ugly palace in the midst of the Alhambra. Destruction of the site by the new rulers continued until Ferdinand VII in 1830 reversed the trend. The restoration effort was to once again show  that the beaty of the Alhambra as Paradise itself. The delicacy and beauty of stalactite type of vaulting combined with arabesque patterns and mosaics, gardens and reflection pools, leave a strong impression on those who can open their soul to reflections.
