DANAE IMPREGNATED BY GOLD

"Danae" (see related A | B | C | D | E | F) Jan Gossaert (1475-1533) Alte Pinakothek, Munich, Germany

There are hundreds of depictions of Danae, who is a mythic emblem that gold conquers. This is the first of the series presenting seven pictorial interpretations along with comments. This website has an emphasis on medical terminology, and a remote connection with Danae is through the notion of "PLAGIOCEPHALY" and other related terms with the root PLAGIO. The implication in plagio is "deformed, false, fake, ...". Babies at birth may have temporary plagiocephaly due to compression during labour and delivery.

Returning to the pictorial gallery - artists depicted a shower of gold, a receptive Danae in suggestive poses of being fertilized, ... - PLAGIO is relevant here because one artist sold several paintings as originals - were they PLAGIARIZED or COPIES? The story continues in the related gallery.
