Babbe is unlikely to be a germanic word - Baba in slavic denotes an older coarse woman, in this instance an alcoholic approaching a state of dementia. The most detectable impact of alcohol dependency is on the brain but in fact, alcoholism destroys the liver and most other organ-systems.
