VENUS of MILO - AN EMBLEM OF CLASSIC ART

Arguably, the above representation of Aphrodite is the most famous. The statue demonstrates that the ancients, contrary to current generations, admired mature feminine beauty.   

Venus of "Milos" points toward a village on the island of Milos or Melos ("melos" points toward honey sweetness, in Ukr, "med" is honey). The stature was found hidden in a cave in 1820 by Mr. Theodorus Kendrotas and ended in Paris. During the Paris Commune of 1871 the stature was hidden from the destructive mobs. Notably, humans often join demented mobs who become destructive animals. In 1939 the stature was hidden again from the impending German invasion. Why the French chose to name the stature Venus and not Aphrodite and discarded fragments of her arms and hands, is not clear. Please note the large number of other statues of Aphrodite or Venus.
