"Wounded Amazon (copy)" (see related A), 1st century Palatine Museum, Rome, Italy
The original was created by Phidias for the sanctuary of Artemis at Ephesus. Since there were so many competing sculptures, a jury of artist decided what were he best four to be placed in the Artemision. This sculpture by Phidias was judged the 2nd best. Other sculptures by Polycletus, Cresilas, Phradmon among others were virtually just as perfect. The first place was given to the sculpture by Polycletus.
