In that era, many infants and children died before reaching puberty. Prospero does not show evidence of having inherited the "Habsburg" gene mutation manifested as a hypertrophied jaw. Such signs emerge as children mature, but, nonetheless, Prospero does seem to have inherited such a mutation.
