Ladon being nurtured
My personal view is that when Hercules killed Ladon, the "serpent monster" protecting the golden apples of the Tree of Knowledge, it triggered the start of the world's end - that is an apocalypsis. "Apo" as in Apoplexy, Apology, Apoptosis, Ptosis ... denote a "revelation". Many Evangelical Christians and other Bible-focused believers know of "apocalypsis" only in terms of the Book of Revelation by John and tend to know less about other notions in the New Testament in comparison to the Old Testament.
Perhaps access to knowledge by mortals in context of lack of wisdom is the source of apocalypsis.
