"Amazon with chest wound (thorax) or rib cage " (details from "Amazone ( Amazon ) Blessee ( Wounded ) a copy from an original by Polykleitos ") (see related A | B | C), 200 Sosicles Louvre Museum, Paris, France
The raised right arm exposes her wounded chest. This statue is a copy attributed to the sculptor Sosicles. The original by Polycletus was made for the sanctuary of Artemis at Ephesus. Since there were many versions of wounded Amazons, a competition was organized for the choice of the official one. In addition to Polycletus, who won the competition, other competitors included Cresilas, Phradmon and Phidias (see another replica and related images).
